TRN Meeting with MCA Transportation Committee

  • 11 Oct 2018
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • McLean Square Shopping Center

TRN committee members to meet with the McLean Citizens Association Transportation Commitee (MCA) and the Greater Tysons Citizen Coalition. This meeting is in lieu of TRN's regular monthly meeting.

Tom Biesiadny (Director, Fairfax County Department of Transportation) and Chris Caperton (Deputy Director of the Fairfax County Office of Community Revitalization) will discuss (i) Traffic Demand Management (TDM), (ii) progress in meeting TDM goals to reduce traffic congestion in Tysons and surrounding neighborhoods, and (iii) TDM enforcement. Among the specific issues that MCA has requested be addressed are:

  • Purpose, definition and features of TDM
  • Metrics currently used to assess whether TDM is working
  • What Fairfax County is doing to independently acquire the data to assess whether TDM is working, including through independent data collection and assessments of Tysons' employees commuting habits and traffic counts on road
  • Whether, and if so how, the increase in traffic congestion on roads in McLean, Great Falls and Vienna (including Georgetown Pike, Route 123, Route 7, and cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets) is factored into the TDM metrics
  • How Fairfax County is enforcing TDM
  • Steps that the County is taking to ensure that land development does not outpace transportation infrastructure development or increase traffic congestion in neighboring communities
